The 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora with a camel ride is perfect for travelers who want a real Sahara experience but don’t have much time. This tour gives you a great first taste of Morocco’s desert, mixing beautiful landscapes, cultural stops, and a bit of adventure.
You will travel through the High Atlas Mountains, see the palm groves of the Draa Valley, and visit the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO site). You’ll also enjoy a camel trek into the Zagora desert and spend the night in a simple nomad-style camp under the stars with warm Moroccan hospitality.
Please note: Zagora is a rocky desert, not the big sand dunes like Erg Chegaga. It’s different, but still a wonderful and memorable experience — especially for first-time Sahara visitors.
Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ouarzazate → Draa Valley → Zagora
Start your 2-day trip from Marrakech with a beautiful drive across the High Atlas Mountains and the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). The road offers amazing views, Berber villages, and mountain farms.
You’ll stop at the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can walk through the old fortified village and enjoy lunch in a nearby traditional restaurant.
After Ait Ben Haddou, continue to the Draa Valley by crossing the Tizi n’Tnifift Pass (1,710 m), once used by caravans traveling across the Sahara.
The road then descends through gorges to Agdz, home to one of the biggest palm groves in Morocco.
As you follow the Draa River toward Zagora, you’ll see clay villages, old kasbahs, and endless palm trees that make this valley so special.
Once in Zagora, known for its pottery and caravan history, you will see the famous sign showing the “52 days to Timbuktu by camel”.
Then the highlight begins: a sunset camel ride into the desert.
You’ll reach your Zagora desert camp, enjoy a warm Moroccan dinner, and spend the evening under the stars with local music and peaceful desert silence.
Day 2: Zagora → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate → High Atlas Mountains → Marrakech
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the small dunes of Zagora and have a traditional breakfast at the camp.
Take a camel ride back to meet your driver and start the return trip to Marrakech.
You will stop in Ouarzazate for lunch and have time to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt.
In the afternoon, drive back through the High Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech, ending your 2-day Zagora desert adventure.
Included in The price
Not included:
1. What’s the difference between a private and a shared tour?
The main difference is the vehicle. In a shared tour, you only share the transportation. Your room and tent stay private, and you can also eat separately if you prefer.
Another difference is that private tours are always guaranteed — once you book, the tour is confirmed.
Shared tours depend on demand and need at least 4 people. If the minimum is not reached, you can choose a free cancellation or continue as a private tour with a special price.
2. Is vegetarian or vegan food available?
Yes, we can prepare vegetarian or vegan meals. Just tell us during the booking, and remind your driver during the tour.
3. Can I reach the camp without riding a camel?
Yes, you can. The camp has a 4×4 car that transports luggage and guests who don’t want to ride camels, or who prefer to ride only once.
If you booked a private tour, your 4×4 vehicle can take you directly to the camp if needed.
4. Does the camp have private bathrooms?
Yes. Our camp is a luxury camp, and all tents have private bathrooms and showers. We include this in our basic packages without a big extra cost.
5. Can I bring my luggage on the tour?
Yes, you can bring your luggage. Our vehicles have plenty of space for large suitcases. Your luggage stays with you at all times, and in the desert, a 4×4 car will take it safely to your tent at the camp.
How to Pay for the Tour:
To confirm your tour or activity, we require a small deposit paid through PayPal to our group coordinator. The remaining balance is paid in cash at pick-up, directly to your driver, in euros or the equivalent amount in dirhams.
Credit Cards:
We do not accept credit card payments. Credit cards are not very practical in Morocco, and they come with high fees and some security risks.
Paying the Total Amount with PayPal:
We usually request the balance in cash because PayPal has high transaction fees and delays for international transfers. In some cases, we can accept full payment by PayPal, but a 5% fee will be added to cover extra charges. If you prefer this option, please arrange it with us before the tour date.
