3-Day Marrakech Desert Tour to Erg Chigaga Dunes in Morocco

Discover the untouched beauty of the Erg Chigaga Sahara dunes. Escape the crowds and explore one of Morocco’s most remote and authentic desert areas. Located southeast of Marrakech near the Algerian border, Erg Chigaga sits over 60 km from the nearest town, Mhamid, offering a true off-the-grid adventure far from mass tourism.

An Erg Chigaga tour is a unique and natural experience. You will travel for at least 3 days through beautiful landscapes including Ait Benhaddou, the Draa Valley, rocky desert plains, and finally the wide-open Sahara dunes. This journey offers the feeling of total freedom and peace.

Imagine riding a camel across golden sand, climbing high dunes, and watching the sunset in complete silence. Spend the night in cozy desert tents or sleep under the stars. Erg Chigaga is different from the more touristic Erg Chebbi: there are no hotels nearby, no crowds—just pure desert and nature.

If you want a real Sahara experience, away from busy areas, this Erg Chigaga desert tour will give you unforgettable memories.

3 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou → Draa Valley → Zagora

Begin your 3-day desert tour at 08:00 AM from Marrakech. Travel in a comfortable 4×4 across the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, enjoying beautiful views along the way.

Your first stop is Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO-protected ksar known for its ancient mud architecture. After visiting the site, enjoy lunch in Ouarzazate or Agdez.

Continue through the Draa Valley, famous for its palm trees and old kasbahs. By evening, arrive in Zagora, where you will spend the night in either a traditional hotel or a desert tent, with dinner included.

Day 2: Zagora → Mhamid → Sacred Oasis → Erg Chigaga Dunes

After breakfast, travel through the palm groves of the Draa Valley and stop to enjoy the view. Visit the famous Koranic library in Tamgroute and explore an underground kasbah.

Reach Mhamid, the last village before the open Sahara. From here, your adventure continues off-road for 60 km toward the Erg Chigaga dunes. These dunes rise up to 300 meters and stretch for 40 km, offering a truly wild desert experience.

In the evening, settle into your desert camp, enjoy a traditional dinner, and take a 40-minute camel ride to watch the beautiful sunset.

Day 3: Erg Chigaga → Foum Zguid → Taznakht → Marrakech

Start your morning with breakfast at the Erg Chigaga camp. Then travel by 4×4 along part of the famous Paris-Dakar rally track. Pass by the dry Iriki Lake and admire the desert scenery.

Stop for lunch in the Berber town of Taznakht before continuing to Marrakech. Arrive around 6:00 PM and drop off at your riad, ending your amazing desert journey.

Private Desert Tour

Enjoy a beautiful 3-day Morocco desert tour from Marrakech to the Erg Chegaga dunes, with prices adjusted based on the number of travelers, the season, and your preferred accommodations. This gives you the best value for an unforgettable Sahara adventure.

For couples looking for a romantic escape, we offer a special rate of 485€ per person, designed to create a magical and intimate trip with lasting memories.

Shared Desert Tour

The shared group tour costs 250€ per person. While this may be slightly higher than some offers on the market, our groups are limited to 8 travelers maximum and require only 4 participants to run. This small group size provides comfort, flexibility, and a more personal experience—very similar to a private tour—with the same quality of hotels, camps, and driver attention.

The Price Includes:

  • Air-conditioned 4×4 vehicle or minivan (depending on group size)
  • Fuel

1. What’s the difference between a private and a shared tour?

The main difference is the vehicle. In a shared tour, you only share the transportation. Your room and tent stay private, and you can also eat separately if you prefer.
Another difference is that private tours are always guaranteed — once you book, the tour is confirmed.
Shared tours depend on demand and need at least 4 people. If the minimum is not reached, you can choose a free cancellation or continue as a private tour with a special price.

2. Is vegetarian or vegan food available?

Yes, we can prepare vegetarian or vegan meals. Just tell us during the booking, and remind your driver during the tour.

3. Can I reach the camp without riding a camel?

Yes, you can. The camp has a 4×4 car that transports luggage and guests who don’t want to ride camels, or who prefer to ride only once.
If you booked a private tour, your 4×4 vehicle can take you directly to the camp if needed.

4. Does the camp have private bathrooms?

Yes. Our camp is a luxury camp, and all tents have private bathrooms and showers. We include this in our basic packages without a big extra cost.

5. Can I bring my luggage on the tour?

Yes, you can bring your luggage. Our vehicles have plenty of space for large suitcases. Your luggage stays with you at all times, and in the desert, a 4×4 car will take it safely to your tent at the camp.

How to Pay for the Tour: To confirm your tour or activity, we require a small deposit paid through PayPal to our group coordinator. The remaining balance is paid in cash at pick-up, directly to your driver, in euros or the equivalent amount in dirhams. Credit Cards: We do not accept credit card payments. Credit cards are not very practical in Morocco, and they come with high fees and some security risks. Paying the Total Amount with PayPal: We usually request the balance in cash because PayPal has high transaction fees and delays for international transfers. In some cases, we can accept full payment by PayPal, but a 5% fee will be added to cover extra charges. If you prefer this option, please arrange it with us before the tour date.
