5-Day Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech to Fes

Embark on an unforgettable 5-day / 4-night Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech to Fes, filled with breathtaking landscapes, ancient kasbahs, dramatic gorges, lush valleys, and the magical sand dunes of southern Morocco. Travel across the impressive High Atlas Mountains, stopping at scenic viewpoints before arriving in Telouet village to explore the historic Kasbah Telouet, once home to the powerful Glaoui rulers.

Your journey continues through the beautiful Ounila Valley, a route lined with small oasis villages, colorful rock formations, and ancient kasbahs, leading to the world-famous UNESCO site of Ait Ben Haddou — a filming location for many Hollywood movies. In Ouarzazate, known as Morocco’s “cinema capital,” discover how iconic films such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down were made.

As you head toward the Skoura Oasis, you’ll walk through palm groves and visit the impressive Amridil Kasbah. Enjoy off-road adventure through the Valley of Roses and the Dades Valley, stopping to meet nomads living in mountain caves and share mint tea with them — a rare cultural experience. End the day relaxing in a comfortable hotel in the beautiful Dades Valley.

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou

Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel/Riad in Marrakech. We drive east toward Ait Ben Haddou, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). Along the way, enjoy stops for photos, coffee, and panoramic views of Berber villages and mountain landscapes.

We visit the famous Kasbah Telouet, once the residence of the Glaoui family, before continuing through the scenic Ounila Valley. This colorful route reveals small kasbahs, gardens, and traditional villages. Finally, we reach the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah — a UNESCO site and a former caravan fortress along the Salt Road. Overnight in Ait Ben Haddou.

Day 2: Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Valley

After breakfast, we visit Ouarzazate to explore the Film Studios and the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Then we follow the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward Skoura Oasis, where you visit the charming Amridil Kasbah.

The journey continues to Kelaat M’Gouna, the Valley of Roses — Morocco’s center for rose oil production. After a relaxing picnic, we drive off-road along the Mgoun River to meet Ait Atta nomads living in mountain caves. Enjoy mint tea with them and learn about their lifestyle.

As the day ends, we enter the Dades Gorge, known for its stunning landscapes and the famous “Monkey Feet” rock formations. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Dades Valley.

Day 3: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorge – Desert Towns – Merzouga Sahara Desert

After breakfast, we explore the Dades Gorge and then travel through Berber villages toward Tineghir and its beautiful palm grove. Next, we visit the impressive Todgha Gorge with its 300-meter cliffs — a paradise for trekkers and climbers.

We continue toward Merzouga, stopping for lunch in Tinjdad or Touroug. Before reaching the dunes, you’ll see “khettaras,” ancient underground water canals still used today.

In Erfoud, known for fossils, you may visit a local workshop. Then we head to the Sahara dunes where your camels are waiting. Enjoy a camel ride during sunset and reach your desert camp for mint tea, dinner, and a night under the stars.

Day 4: Discover Merzouga – Nomads – Rissani – Sahara Hotel

Today you explore the Erg Chebbi dunes on a full desert tour. You’ll meet nomad families, learn about desert life, and visit Khamlia village to enjoy traditional Gnawa music.

We then travel to Rissani, a historic market town and former caravan center. Here, you’ll see traditional souks and learn about local culture.

Later, we return to your hotel at the foot of the dunes for a peaceful evening and overnight stay.

Day 5: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas Mountains – Fes

Wake early to watch an unforgettable sunrise from the dunes. After breakfast, return by camel or 4×4 to meet your driver.

We drive through the beautiful Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and traditional fortified villages (ksars). Stop for panoramic views of the oasis.

Continue to Midelt, the “apple city,” for lunch, then drive through the Cedar Forest of Azrou where you may see wild Barbary apes. A stop in Ifrane — “the Switzerland of Morocco” — is also possible.

By late afternoon, we reach Fes and drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of your unforgettable desert journey.

1. What’s the difference between a private and a shared tour?

The main difference is the vehicle. In a shared tour, you only share the transportation. Your room and tent stay private, and you can also eat separately if you prefer.
Another difference is that private tours are always guaranteed — once you book, the tour is confirmed.
Shared tours depend on demand and need at least 4 people. If the minimum is not reached, you can choose a free cancellation or continue as a private tour with a special price.

2. Is vegetarian or vegan food available?

Yes, we can prepare vegetarian or vegan meals. Just tell us during the booking, and remind your driver during the tour.

3. Can I reach the camp without riding a camel?

Yes, you can. The camp has a 4×4 car that transports luggage and guests who don’t want to ride camels, or who prefer to ride only once.
If you booked a private tour, your 4×4 vehicle can take you directly to the camp if needed.

4. Does the camp have private bathrooms?

Yes. Our camp is a luxury camp, and all tents have private bathrooms and showers. We include this in our basic packages without a big extra cost.

5. Can I bring my luggage on the tour?

Yes, you can bring your luggage. Our vehicles have plenty of space for large suitcases. Your luggage stays with you at all times, and in the desert, a 4×4 car will take it safely to your tent at the camp.

How to Pay for the Tour:

To confirm your tour or activity, we require a small deposit paid through PayPal to our group coordinator. The remaining balance is paid in cash at pick-up, directly to your driver, in euros or the equivalent amount in dirhams.

Credit Cards:

We do not accept credit card payments. Credit cards are not very practical in Morocco, and they come with high fees and some security risks.

Paying the Total Amount with PayPal:

We usually request the balance in cash because PayPal has high transaction fees and delays for international transfers. In some cases, we can accept full payment by PayPal, but a 5% fee will be added to cover extra charges. If you prefer this option, please arrange it with us before the tour date.
